What is the research behind MaxiVision?
Ever since MaxiVision first came on the market, its formula has been based on the most-respected studies into how eyes age and how nutrition can support healthy vision. In 2013, results of a landmark study supported the formulation we use today. This research is: Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (AREDS 2) Study Group: Lutein + Zeaxanthin and Omega-3 Fatty Acids for Age-Related Macular Degeneration.
Is MaxiVision safe?
MaxiVision has been on the market since 1998 and we have a long track record of customer satisfaction and doctor recommendations. In addition, the MaxiVision contains NO beta carotene and NO synthetic Vitamin E - both of which have raised possible safety concerns.
How much lutein and zeaxanthin does MaxiVision contain?
20 mg lutein and 4 mg zeaxanthin – two times the amount of other eye vitamins such as PreserVision or I-Caps. This is important because studies show that supplemental lutein and zeaxanthin can predictably increase macular pigment and support eye health as we age. It is also important to know that our lutein comes from FloraGLO® – natural source that studies show does a better job of getting into your blood stream so you can actually benefit from the lutein.
Does MaxiVision contain Omega-3?
No. The AREDS 2 study did not find omega-3 to improve the original ARED eye vitamin formulation.
Does MaxiVision contain beta carotene?
No. Beta-carotene was part of the original ARED eye vitamin formulation, but there are concerns about the safety of taking beta-carotene. This is particularly true for people who smoke or have done so in the past. The AREDS 2 study found that replacing the beta-carotene with lutein and zeaxanthin (two other carotenoids) was effective – the ingredients used in MaxiVision.
What happens when we age?
In our eyes, the density of pigment in the macula area can deteriorate. Signs of this can include Drusen deposits in the macula, blurred central vision and sensitivity to glare. Major research studies show that the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin play a key role in the density of the eye's macular pigment. Vitamins, minerals and other antioxidants also play a key role in supporting whole-body health. These cell-builders and antioxidants are contained in foods, but it's often hard to get the level of them needed to support macular pigment and overall health as we age. Plus, medications, alcohol, smoking, illness and age-related issues can keep you from getting the full benefit. Studies show taking certain eye vitamins and supplements can help.
